Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL): Chinese Language Programs
The Ohio State University’s Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL) is a nationally recognized center for Chinese language instruction, offering both undergraduate major and minor programs in Chinese. With a total of 39 Chinese language courses ranging from beginning to advanced levels, in both traditional classroom and Individualized Instruction settings, DEALL offers performance-based language instruction to develop communicative and intercultural competencies. DEALL also provides a variety of Chinese courses at differing levels of intensity to maximize student access. From traditional, moderately-paced courses to intensive summer programs such as the Summer Programs East Asian Concentration (SPEAC) that comprise an entire year of language study in one summer quarter. In a combination of formats, it is possible to complete the equivalent of 4 years of language study in 15 months.

OSU Chinese Flagship Program -- Advanced Chinese Language Instruction
With the inauguration in 2005 of the OSU Chinese Flagship Program, OSU has become home to one of the most comprehensive American programs of advanced Chinese. The OSU Chinese Flagship Program is designed for upper-intermediate and advanced speakers of Mandarin Chinese who seek to achieve a superior level of proficiency. This innovative two-year program focuses on the cultural aspects of communication, combining classroom-based instruction at OSU with a 6-month language and cultural immersion component in Qingdao, China.
