The Institute for Chinese Studies is committed to assisting K-12 educators throughout Ohio with introducing Chinese language and culture to Ohio’s students. Spotlight: The Fort Hayes Chinese Project was a very successful undertaking. Approximately 100 high school students participated in various activities: dancing, martial arts, making shadow puppets, and stage performances. Fort Hayes students performed at other Columbus schools. These performances were well received, garnering a community service award. In addition, their model was replicated at the Art Impact Middle School (AIMS) in January 2006.
Ohio / China Pen Pals Program initiated by ICS in 2006

Westerville South High School / Beijing No. 5 High School, Beijing, China
Centerville High School / Tianjin Xinhua High School, Tianjin, China
Spotlight: These Ohio middle and high schools began particiapating in a Pen Pals program with their counterparts in China in 2006. Students from Ohio and China exchange letters to each other via email and "snail-mail".
Chinese Culture Month Facilitated by ICS
Spotlight: Based on the model of the Fort Hayes project, all 7th graders at Art Impact Middle School (AIMS) participated in a one-month study and practicum of Chinese dance and martial arts in 2005. At the end of the month, they shared their performances with all 7th and 8th graders.
