Tibetan

Classical Tibetan Courses at OSU
In order to expand the portfolio of less-commonly taught languages and to strengthen the Buddhist Art and Chinese minority studies programs in OSU’s Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL), the East Asian Studies Center (EASC) initiated discussions to organize the delivery of Classical Tibetan to OSU students via video-conferencing technology. Through cooperation between EASC, DEALL, the Department of Asian Languages at the University of Michigan, the Language Centers at both UM and OSU, the ASC Curriculum Committee at OSU, the CIC representatives on both campuses, and the CIC central authorities, a year-long sequence of Classical Tibetan courses are now offered in cooperation with the University of Michigan through the CIC-based CourseShare video-conferencing/credit exchange infrastructure. In addition to Classical Tibetan, EASC has committed funding to develop the video-based import of other East Asian languages through academic years 2006-10.
